Hi, I'm Scott. I'm a certified naturopathic advisor and nutritional health coach. My journey to you started years ago when I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.
At the time, I knew very little about diabetes. I thought it was a death sentence from which there was no return - a fast track to heart disease, stroke, cancer, accelerated ageing and premature disability. I was partially right. Diabetes can be a certain death sentence. But it doesn't have to be.
Dissatisfied with my doctor's approach (or rather lack of approach) to helping me manage my condition, I decided to take my health into my own hands. My initial research led to one resounding conclusion - type 2 diabetes is 100% preventable and 100% reversible through diet and lifestyle changes. That's all I needed to know. That was the moment when I fully and totally devoted my life to turning my health around.
In less than a month I had managed to bring down my blood glucose levels to those of non-diabetic adult. Within three months I had inadvertently lost my first ten kilos without really trying. For the first time in my life I was becoming fit. And it was completely through diet.
Up until then, weight loss had been an endless struggle for me. Suddenly, the results of my efforts to beat diabetes were turning out to be the solution to my lifelong battle with weight.
I also started to realise that good eating habits form the universal front line against all life's potential health pitfalls.
Several years later and now in my fifties, I'm a lean 80 kilos and feel better than when I was 35. I haven't had the flu or even caught a cold in years. I rarely experience fatigue and seem to have increased levels of energy and stamina.
Sounds strange now, but getting diabetes was the best thing that's ever happened to me. It forced me to make tough changes and commit to them. And it helped me to understand that a weight problem is a health condition that can be improved by the best medicine in the world - good food.
